Description
Castrol Alphasyn GS 460 is a premium synthetic gear lubricant formulated on polyalkylene glycol (PAG) base fluids with high-stability antioxidant, rust inhibiting, and Extreme Pressure (EP) additives. This advanced formulation delivers superior thermal and oxidative stability over conventional mineral oils, which helps minimize sludge and deposit formation and supports extended drain intervals and longer service life. It’s especially suited for high-temperature lubrication of gears and bearings, including applications such as large-scale mills, calenders, and worm gear drives where elevated operating temperatures and heavy torque loads occur.
The inherent properties of the PAG base and including high viscosity index and wide service temperature range (continuous up to ~150 °C with short peaks up to ~220 °C) — help maintain protective film strength and reduce frictional energy losses. This oil also supports reduced energy consumption and lower sump temperatures, which contribute to improved equipment efficiency and reliability in demanding industrial environments.
Key Features
-
Fully synthetic PAG base with EP and protective additives for robust gear protection.
-
ISO VG 460 viscosity — ideal for heavily loaded industrial gear systems.
-
High thermal & oxidative stability — minimizes sludge and deposit formation.
-
Wide service temperature range (continuous up to ~150 °C, intermittent to ~220 °C).
-
Reduced frictional losses help lower operating temperatures and energy use.
-
CLP classification (DIN 51517 Part 3) — industrial gear oil standard.
Typical Applications
Ideal for industrial enclosed gearboxes and bearing lubrication, particularly where high temperatures, heavy loads, and long drain intervals are encountered — such as in large machinery, mills, calenders, and worm reduction gear setups found in manufacturing, processing plants, and heavy-duty industrial environments.
