Description
Castrol Alphasyn GS 680 is part of Castrol’s Alphasyn GS range of synthetic industrial gear lubricants made with advanced PAG base fluids and a high‑stability additive package that includes antioxidants, rust‑inhibiting agents, and EP additives. This combination provides superior thermal and oxidative stability compared with conventional mineral oils, which helps minimize sludge and deposit formation, extend oil service intervals, and reduce maintenance.
The PAG base also delivers a high viscosity index and low pour point, which means the oil retains effective film strength and lubrication across a wide temperature range. Alphasyn GS 680 can operate continuously at elevated temperatures (up to ~150 °C) with intermittent peaks at approximately 220 °C, making it especially suitable for high‑temperature lubrication of gears and bearings in demanding industrial environments.
This gear oil is not miscible with traditional mineral gear oil and should be used in applications where a synthetic PAG lubricant is specified or recommended by the equipment manufacturer.
Features & Benefits
- Reduced frictional losses leads to reduced energy consumption and lower sump temperatures
- Higher thermal stability, hence minimal formation of sludge and deposits
- Better load-carrying properties and reduced wear compared with conventional mineral oils
- Inherently higher Viscosity Index (VI) which, with the lower pour point, results in a wider range of service temperatures (-30 °C to 150 °C continuous bulk temperatures, with intermittent operating temperatures of up to 220°C.
