Description
Castrol Alpha EP 100 is part of the Castrol Alpha EP range of industrial gear oils formulated to meet DIN 51517-3 CLP and U.S. Steel 224 specifications, offering a balanced combination of film strength, load-carrying capacity, and operating reliability for a broad range of gear applications.
It’s a mineral oil-based lubricant enhanced with extreme pressure (EP) additive technology to help protect against wear and scuffing under moderate loads, while also resisting thermal breakdown and aging.
This gear oil performs well in various enclosed gear drive systems and can also be compatible with mechanical-hydrodynamic transmissions, turbo clutches, and some hydraulic circuits where CLP-type oils are specified. It demonstrates neutral behaviour toward conventional seal materials and bearing metals, helping ensure safe use across many industrial systems.
Typical properties include an ISO VG 100 kinematic viscosity (≈100 mm²/s @ 40 °C) and a viscosity index above 95, with good pour point and flash point suitable for industrial environments.
Key Features
-
ISO VG 100 viscosity: Provides balanced lubrication and flow in medium-load gearboxes.
-
CLP classification (DIN 51517-3): Industrial gear oil standard for enclosed gear systems..
-
Good wear and scuff protection: EP additives help guard gear surfaces under load.
-
Good thermal stability and aging resistance: Helps maintain performance over extended service intervals.
-
Neutral toward seals and bearing metals: Compatible with typical industrial materials.
-
Large 208 L drum: Ideal for bulk application and large-capacity gear oil reservoirs.
Typical Applications
Suitable for industrial enclosed gearboxes, spur and helical gear drives, reducers, and other heavy-duty industrial machinery requiring reliable CLP lubrication. It’s also used in mechanical-hydrodynamic transmissions and hydrokinetic clutches in manufacturing and processing installations
